Now Faith is the Substance of Things Hoped For, the Evidence of Things Not Seen

I have two friends who are “going through it ” right now and I wanted to re-post this for them, it’s so important that we keep the faith yet it’s the first thing that we lose.

Someone reviewed my site on Linkreferral and said “I thought this was a make money blog”.  I’m not quite sure what a make money blog should do, but I know that I want my readers to leave my site feeling a little better, a little smarter and a little more inspired than when they arrived. I also know that you can make a little money by dibbling and dabbling in things, but persistency, consistency and the right mindset are going to make you a lot of money (and it won’t take 40 years of trying). So lets talk some more about faith; raise your hand if you think that Barack Obama is the POTUS because he “caught a break” or that Bill Gates is the richest man in the world because he “got lucky”, I suppose you also think that Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream speech” was just words on paper….hmmm

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen – Hebrews 11:1

What do the three men I mentioned have in common? They believed in something that:

  1. They could not see
  2. They had never seen
  3. No one in the entire world had ever seen

Yet here I am, a black woman, living in the boonies in the state of Georgia and I am not afraid, because Martin Luther King had a dream “that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.”  And he dreamed it long enough and hard enough and passed it on to millions of people, and what none of them could even begin to  imagine back then, has  actually come to pass.

**Do you think that maybe some people thought that Bill Gates was crazy for dropping out of Harvard ( I mean it’s Harvard, people would kill to get in and he dropped out), and crazier still for thinking that we needed a computer on every desk ( to do what? our  math homework?). Do you think he might have had a naysayer or two or three?  Lots of people probably thought he wouldn’t amount to much, well he showed them didn’t he? Because here I sit in an easy chair portable computer in my lap, no wires,  communicating with people all across the globe.

Now even I thought Barack Obama was on a fools mission, but after I heard him speak a few times, I knew ( and I told my husband, so ask him cause I ain’t making this up) that this guy had read a personal development book or two, and I knew that he knew that to be successful you have to believe it before you see it.  I think we could all see that this man really believed it, and after a while he had a lot of people seeing and believing right along with him; and here we are with the first African-American POTUS ever.

*Faith is the place where each of these men of vision stood firm in their expectations while they proved to the entire world that which (even) they could not actually see.

What are your expectations? Whether you’re expecting to succeed or expecting to fail, chances are you will. As surely as the telephone was seeking Alexander Graham Bell and the light bulb was seeking Thomas Edison – opportunity is seeking you, but it won’t matter if you can’t see it.

Faith is where you should stand while you expect to make more money in a short period of time than you have ever made in a long period of time, even though your friends and family call you constantly asking “How’s that business of yours going?” and then they make a remark like “I guess I’ll get in it when I see you start making some real money” and then they go join someone else’s business, because  you would never lie to your family but a stranger would – but you’re not bitter, cause you’ve got faith and a future that you can actually see.

* I learned this from Myron Golden and it was so powerful that I just never forgot it.

**And yes I should mention Steve Jobs somewhere in here too, so here ya go visionary Apple guy who brought us the  Iphone, Macs (my first PC experience  back in college actually), and may have had some of his ideas pilfered (I dunno for sure).

A Daily Spiritual Treatment for the Betterment of Conditions

prayerI am especially fond of Ernest Holme’s “Living The Science Of The Mind”.  The following treatment is my favorite and (if I recall correctly) is one that I  promised to share a while back.  You can say this one for yourself , for your family, for a friend or coworker, or any person or persons who could use a hand up.  As with prayers, they don’t have to be there or even ever know that you did this for them. Also, your level of belief and sincerity will determine your result sor lack thereof..

The words I speak are the Law of Good and they will produce the desired result because they are operated on by a power greater than I am. Good alone comes from me and good alone returns to me.

This word is for myself. Everything I say is for me and about me. It is the truth about my real self. There is One Life, that life is God, that Life is perfect, that Life is my life now.

Everything that I do, say, or think is governed by Divine Intelligence and inspired by Divine Wisdom. I am guided into right action. I am surrounded with friendship, love, and beauty. Enthusiastic joy, vitality, and inspiration are in everything I do. I am aware of my partnership with the infinite.

Every thought of not being wanted, of being afraid, of uncertainty and doubt is cast out of my mind. My memory goes back to God alone, in whom I live, move and have my being. A complete sense of happiness, peace, and certainty floods me with light. I have confidence in myself because I have confidence in God. I am sure of myself because I am sure of God.

The Spirit within me knows the answer to any problem which confronts me. I know that the answer is here and now. It is within my own mind because God is right where I am. I now turn from the problem to the Spirit, accepting the answer. In calm confidence, in perfect trust, in abiding faith, and with complete peace I let go of the problem and receive the answer.

I know exactly what to do in every situation. Every idea necessary to successful living is brought to my attention. The doorway to ever-increasing opportunities for self expression is open before me. I am continuously meeting new and larger experiences. Every day brings some greater good. Every day brings more blessing and greater self-expression. I am prospered in everything I do. There is no deferment, no delay, no obstruction or obstacle, nothing to impede the progress of right action.

I identify myself with abundance. I surrender all fear and doubt. I let go of all uncertainty. I know there is no confusion, no lack of confidence. I know that what is mine will claim me, know me, rush to me. The Presence of God is with me. The Mind of God is my mind. The Freedom of God is my freedom.

Today I bestow the essence of love upon everything. Everyone I meet shall be lovely to me. My soul meets the Soul of the Universe in everyone. This love is a healing power touching everything into wholeness. I am one with the rhythm of Life. There is nothing to be afraid of. There is nothing to be uncertain about. God is over all, in all, and through all. God is right where I am. I am at peace with the world in which I live. I am at home with the Divine Spirit in which I am immersed.

Is There Life After Debt?

blisshopeThe ability to dream sustains us for the long haul, gets us through the rough patches, carries us over the bumps in the road – or at least that’s what it should do.  But I got to thinking the other day, that sometimes just when we need our dreams, our faith,  and a strong belief system that’s when we lose them.

I had a business partner who was doing great, recruiting new team members,  marketing  our products and services and just movng up in pin levels and income like crazy. Joe had lost his job back in ’08 and was working to supplement his wife’s income. They had gotten behind on a few bills  and were living paycheck to paycheck.  So you can imagine why Joe threw himself into the business in a no holds barred way, and was experiencing success and getting checks in the mail. Then his wife got laid off and Joe felt so overwhelmed that he stopped working the business and eventually quit. When I asked him why he said that with all of the financial problems they had , he just couldn’t focus on the business at all.

This happens all of the time, some people call it quitting before the blessing, but I know better.  I know that what really happened is that Joe  suddenly  lost his ability to dream of a life after debt. That’s what debt will do to you, it throws up this wall between you and the things you used to dream about, the goals that you had previously set for yourself. Debt whispers insistentlyinto your ear that what you really really need to  do is forget all this six-figure income nonsense and go get a a real job  with a steady paycheck.  And, hey I’m not knocking jobs, after all  I have one of those too and I can honestly tell you (like I told Joe, but he was too far gone to get it) that  you will need a king sized salary (or more than one job)  to conquer debt in the short term and that’s why you should not quit working your business.

Anyway I’m not here to talk about jobs and debt really. What I wanted to ask you is “Do you still believe? Are you still dreaming?” If you close your eyes and all you can see is your pile of bills dwindling, then I gotta tell you that the answer is probably no.  Do me a favor, go lay down close your eyes for a bit of a bit and dream a big dream that involves cruises and traveling and designer clothes and big houses all paid for with cash. Visualize yourself driving a Lamborghini on the autobahn, having lunch in Dubai, or whatever trips your trigger.

I want you to do this a minimum of once a week, more often if you can. Take it a step further and start a dreamboard or two(just cut pictures and quites out of magazines that represent your dreams; paste them on a piece of posterboard and put it someplace that you can look at it everyday). Here is an example and here is another (I love examples more than instructions  don’t you?).

Soon you will see that there is life after debt if you persist and above all keep on dreaming. Come back and let me know if  this helped you…

On Faith | Fear is the Opposite of Faith

Image by PONCE 2007 via Flickr

“He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm.” – Matthew 8:26

A child comes into the world with two fears (falling and loud noises), yet by the time they are five they are burdened with additional fears:

  • abandonment
  • strangers
  • spankings and retribution

As adults we find ourselves a bundle of nerves and fears. Radio personalities tell us that our world is falling apart, politicians (by their actions) tell us there is no hope, we are afraid of saying or doing the wrong thing at work or in social situations, we worry that we won’t be able to pay the bills this month, we are afraid that we have not instilled the right values in our children, and we’re afraid of people who are different from us.

Faith is the antidote to every fear that lives in your mind or in your heart. Faith thoughts will stop your fear thoughts dead in their tracks. With faith you can sail through any crisis successfully, while fear can stop you right where you are and even kill you. It is almost sinful to choose fear over faith, and I am always disappointed in those religious leaders who do this.

If you are a marketer then fear is your enemy, it drains you of energy and ambition. Fear is hard work and if you are putting all of your energy into being afraid, then where is the positive energy that you need to build your business?

To be successful in business and in life we have to recognize that today is all we have, tomorrow has not happened yet and yesterday is over – can’t relive it or redo it, it is gone, gone , gone. Since today is it, you have to do it up right:

  • wake up with an attitude of gratitude and a positive affirmation
  • expect the very best of yourself and others
  • be joyful!
  • don’t worry about tomorrow, it won’t happen until you wake up again and by then – it’ll be today

Florence Scovel Shinn says that if you walk up to the lion in your path he will vanish into native nothingness. What that means is that when you face your fears they will disappear, because they are made of air. You’re laughing, I know, you’re thinking “You idiot, people are losing their homes and their jobs, our kids are losing they’re lives to war, gangs and drugs.  How do you make that disappear?”

Let me qualify the statement above – when you walk up to the lion in your pathway, armed with the knowledge and faith that he is nothing and cannot destroy you, he will vanish into his native nothingness.

Do you have faith, or are you going to let your fears rule your life?

On Faith |You Are Whatever You Think You Are

Sexually Abused child.
Image via Wikipedia

*Inspired by James Allen’s “As A Man Thinketh”

I was moved to post this by a conversation that I had with Re over at badgalsradio about the Rihanna/ Chris Brown situation, and why women stay with men who abuse them.

The phrase “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he,” not only embraces the whole of a man’s being, but is so comprehensive as to reach out to every condition and circumstance of his life. A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all of his thoughts.

For example when I was a child of 9 or so years, I was told (in an angry and tearful way) that I was just like my father – I did not know what this meant (that I had curly hair? fairer skin than my siblings? A deep love and respect for the written word?), but I knew that it was not a good thing to be “just like” the good looking ladies man known as “Pops” (Daddy was an OG for real).

I grew up with this negative self-image (please be careful what you say to children, as they will continue to live up to your words long after you have forgotten that you said them).

I over ate throughout my childhood (probably so that I would not be anywhere near good looking because obviously that was a bad thing). You see I had been given a negative self-image and I kept this image for years (I live off of the residuals still), so because I thought of myself as a “bad” person I was sometimes a very bad person.

In some cultures, children are told (beginning in the womb) how smart, pretty, handsome and talented they are and the great heights they will scale in adulthood. These children grow into successful adults because they already think that they are beautiful, successful and prosperous human beings.

“A noble and Godlike character is not a thing of favour or chance, but is the natural result of continued effort in right thinking. An ignoble and bestial character, by the same process, is the result of the continued harbouring of groveling thoughts.”

We see this in victims of child abuse; whether said abuse is verbal, physical or sexual. These children:

  • are often very sexually active
  • prone to abuse alcohol and drugs
  • May end up being abusers themselves.

Why is this? The very act of, and the circumstances which arise out of abuse removes the ability to cultivate a good self image – how can one grow a rose among the weeds?

So, the abused person is abused a second time by their own inability to think good thoughts about themselves and therefore “by the abuse and wrong application of thought” they descend “below the level of the beast” in some aspects of their lives.

It is a testament to the power of our minds and thought itself that we are able to rise above and erase the set of negative thought images planted in our youth and forge a new set of success thoughts for ourselves. As the plant springs from, and could not be without, the seed, so do all of our actions and experiences spring from the hidden seeds of thought, and could not have appeared without them.
